Interested in deepening your yoga practice or becoming a yoga teacher? Join Maureen Bosker (Yoga In the Woods) at Soul Yoga for a 200/300 hour RYT Yoga Teacher training program this Fall! 

Maureen Bosker has a deep knowledge and appreciation for the practice of Ashtanga Yoga with over 24 years of yoga study and 12 years of leading teacher training programs. She has trained with amazing certified Ashtanga teachers including Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the founder of Ashtanga Yoga, David Swenson, Beryl Bender Birch, & Kathy McNames. This training program will be very individualized according to your desires and needs. It will provide a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of teaching yoga based from the Ashtanga Yoga System, lineage of Krishnamacharya - preparing you for the Basic Hatha, Power, Slow Flow, Vinyasa and other styles of classes. 

Curriculum:

  • Practice/Observation and Evaluation of Bodies/Postures

  • Teaching Methods/Techniques

  • Ancient Roots of Yoga/Historical perspective/Introduction to the ancient texts

  • The Eight Limbs of Yoga

  • Yamas and Niyama

  • The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

Anatomy:

  • Common Misalignments in a yoga practice

  • Form and function of skeleton-major joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons

  • Specific breakdown of major structures of the human body and the yoga methods in teaching

  • Reading Bodies

  • Normal and variations of the human body

  • Working with joint replacement.

  • Basic overview of the human body

Teaching Asana

  • Surya Namaskara- The sun salutations and variations

  • Standing Asana

  • Core Refinement

  • Arm Balances

  • Backbends

  • Seated and Supine Twists

  • Forward Bends and Hip Openers

  • Inversions

  • Savasana and massage techniques

  • Introduction to the Ashtanga method as taught by Sri. Pattabhi Jois

  • Basic Hatha Yoga

  • Vinyasa

  • Sequencing and class planning

  • Building a class

  • Sanskrit (Ashtanga postures, Counting)

Teaching Methodology/Pranayama/Philosophy

  • Creating space for students growth/ the ABC’s of class etiquette

  • Pranayama practice/teaching safely to a group

  • Breath awareness

  • Refining the flow of the breath/deepening pranayama practice

  • Ujjayi Pranayama

  • Nadi Shodhana

  • Bandhas

  • The 5 koshas

  • Chanting

  • Basic Bija Mantra sounds

  • Meditation/techniques/styles/teaching

  • Physical Adjustments for all students/the art of Assisting within a yoga class

  • Verbal instruction of Asana/Ques

Requirements:

  • 10 hours of observation & 10 practice hours at Soul

  • 10 Karma Hours – Community Classes

Please memorize before coming to the first class:

  • The eight limbs of Astanga Yoga

  • 5 Yamas and 5 Niyamas

*If interested in the 300 hour training – phase 2 of the training will include more hours & different options will be offered. This will depend on how many register and will be including in the original cost!*
