A somatic + soulful journey into the safety of the heart
Refuge is a guided, heart-centered workshop exploring the heart as more than a physical organ — as a center of intelligence, intuition, and deep inner safety.
So often, we are taught to change our thoughts in order to heal. This experience invites a different orientation: one that begins in the body. When the heart feels safe, the nervous system can regulate and it is from this place that healing, clarity, and trust naturally emerge.
Drawing from ancient wisdom traditions, modern understandings of the heart–mind connection, and embodied practices, this workshop weaves together gentle somatic movement, meditation, reflective journaling, and ceremonial cacao. Each element is offered as a doorway to create the internal conditions where openness and insight can arise organically.
Participants will be guided to:
Explore the heart as a source of intelligence and intuition
Experience how an open heart signals safety to the body
Gently regulate the nervous system through somatic awareness
Soften habitual patterns of protection and contraction
Reconnect with an inner sense of trust, steadiness, and belonging
The somatic movement portion will be slow, accessible, and invitational, with options offered throughout. No prior experience with yoga, meditation, or cacao is required. This is not a performance-based space; it is a space for listening, sensing, and meeting yourself where you are.
Ceremonial cacao will be shared to support heart-opening, presence, and embodied awareness. Journaling prompts will offer time for quiet reflection and integration.
Refuge is for anyone longing to step out of the overthinking mind and into the heart. It’s for anyone craving a sense of safety, a need for connection, and a desire to feel truth as an active sensation in the body. This is a space to rest and remember that our heart is our home.
Do I need prior experience with yoga or meditation?
No. This workshop is designed to be accessible and invitational. All movement, meditation, and reflection practices are offered gently, with options throughout. You are welcome to participate in a way that feels supportive for your body and nervous system.
What should I bring?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement. Bring your mat, journal (or something to write on) and pen, as well as a water bottle. Props will be provided.
What is ceremonial cacao?
Ceremonial cacao is a heart-opening, non-psychoactive plant medicine traditionally used in ritual and contemplative settings. It is gently stimulating and supportive of presence, emotional openness, and embodied awareness. Cacao is optional, and participants are always welcome to listen to their own needs.
Are there any contraindications for cacao?
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a known heart condition, are taking antidepressants or other medications that may interact with cacao, or have any medical concerns, please consult your healthcare provider before consuming ceremonial cacao. You are also welcome to participate fully in the workshop without drinking cacao.
Is cacao required to attend?
No. Cacao is offered as an optional support for the experience. You may choose to drink a smaller amount or abstain entirely. All practices in the workshop stand on their own.
